Two new bits of information today about the DCU reported by The Playlist.
The first is all about SPOILER ALERT the finale with Superman killing General Zod by snapping his neck. Zack Snyder, director of Man of Steel, explained that the reason was the Kryptonian alien learned not to kill by killing the ruthless Zod in a head-cracking split-decision.
I personally prefer the thought that Kal-El compared his options and knew there was no way to consciously preserve the lives of his new home. The original screenplay from David S. Goyer has Superman sending the Kryptonian General into the Phantom Zone, something he had learned about in the Fortress of Solitude.
I was disappointed by the film in general as I felt it pursued style far over substance and the style was nothing new.
The other tidbit is that Ben Affleck, who is portraying Batman/Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, says that Wayne knew people who died in the battle over Metropolis and that serves in his vengeful regard towards Kal-El. This seems interesting to me if not wholly unneeded. Of course the richest man in America knows people in the biggest city in America who died. I’m more surprised that people survived the destruction in Metropolis.
So what do you think of these news pieces? What were your thoughts on Man of Steel’s ending? Will you be seeing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Let me know!
